As another New Year approaches, and we have gained many new Tony supporters and have faced much new opposition from all the Private Owners of exotic animals, due to the new arrival of G. W. Exotics in Oklahoma trying to get Tony…and the new attention on this long ongoing case……we wanted to post a photo reminder as to why this battle was waged years ago and express our view on private ownership.

This photo of Tony was Taken in 2010, his cage had zero enrichment. zero. He was found to be underfed and underweight by the USDA on January 11, 2011, not so long ago, now was it. Mr. Sandlin was warned by the USDA to increase Tony’s diet. So those of us that have been here fighting for Tony to be sent to an accredited Sanctuary will never forget the photos, the sad videos on youtube from years before, the time when no one cared enough to help Tony. Regardless of your views on Private Ownership if a Tiger looked like Tony did last year, even private owners should have been outraged.

HE STILL HAS NO POOL TO DIVE INTO AND SWIM, HES AFRAID OF THAT HORSE TROUGH….AND ITS STILL A TRUCK STOP. WE WONT SUPPORT TONY BEING THERE, SORRY. DAILY TAUNTING BY TOURISTS IS NO LIFE FOR A TIGER….

Other PETA reference found with respect to Tony from November 25, 2008: http://blog.peta.org/archives/2008/11/activists_knock.php

Tiger Truck Stop has failed to meet minimal federal standards for the care of animals used in exhibition as established in the Animal Welfare Act (AWA). The U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) has cited the truck stop for unsanitary feeding practices, mishandling tigers, failure to provide veterinary care, failure to provide shelter from inclement weather, failure to provide clean drinking water, and repeatedly failing to have knowledgeable employees caring for the tigers. A tiger cub died when he was taken to a veterinarian for declawing. Tiger Truck Stop has bred and sold tiger cubs to tourists and through raffles. Tigers are kept in concrete cages as a novelty display to amuse customers. Contact PETA for documentation.

July 2, 2007:

The USDA cited Tiger Truck Stop for failure to clean cages as often as necessary to maintain adequate sanitation.

July 26, 2006:

The USDA cited Tiger Truck Stop for failure to maintain structurally sound cages for the tigers.

April 25, 2003:

A USDA order assessed Tiger Truck Stop a $2,500 fine and limited the facility to possessing or exhibiting no more than two exotic cats because of repeated violations of the Animal Welfare Act.

November 12, 2002:

The USDA cited Tiger Truck Stop for failure to correct a previously identified noncompliance of not utilizing a sufficient number of adequately trained employees.

August 15, 2002:

The USDA cited Tiger Truck Stop for failure to correct previously identified noncompliances of not utilizing a sufficient number of adequately trained employees to care for the animals (the only caretaker’s hours had been cut and he had not received training as mandated by previous reports) and failure to provide food free of contamination and of sufficient nutritive quality. Tiger Truck Stop was also cited for improper food storage.

May 9, 2002:

The USDA cited Tiger Truck Stop for failure to correct previous noncompliances of not maintaining structurally sound facilities, which “indicate an ongoing lack of maintenance plan,” and failure to utilize a sufficient number of adequately trained employees, which was demonstrated by a lack of veterinary care. There was only one employee assigned to care for five large cats in addition to other tasks. Tiger Truck Stop was also cited for failure to provide veterinary care to a female tiger who appeared to have “arthritis or some form of posterior paralysis” and exhibited “severe atrophy of quadriceps muscles,” as well as failure to provide food of sufficient nutritive quality and prepared in a manner to prevent contamination.

October 9, 2001:

The USDA cited Tiger Truck Stop for failure to correct a previously identified noncompliance of mishandling tigers. The inspector wrote, “[The] [c]aretaker informed me [that the two tiger cubs] were removed … a week ago … for declawing. The first evening at the veterinarian’s, the male cub died.” Tiger Truck Stop was cited for failure to maintain facilities. The inspector wrote, “There has been no progress in repairing and/or repainting metal bars. This total neglect is resulting in rapid deterioration of [the] structural soundness of [the] entire facility and may result in future escapes.” The USDA also cited Tiger Truck Stop for failure to have a sufficient number of adequately trained employees. The inspector wrote, “Over the past several inspections, I have dealt with different employees whose primary function was not animal care. [The] [m]anagement of this facility does not seem to place great store [in] or adequately reward caretakers. … [J]udg[ing] by the state of disrepair of the facility, more outside help … is required. … There is also some question as to the expertise of the employee caring for the cubs, [one of whom] died.”

July 24, 2001:

The USDA cited Tiger Truck Stop for failure to have a program of veterinary care, for mishandling animals, for failure to maintain cages, and for improper food storage. The inspector wrote, “Two 3-week-old cubs [are] being bottle raised in [the] truck stop office. They are loose in [the] manager’s office and are being shown to customers. For their own safety and health, these cubs must be moved to a designated area which is in compliance and off limits to customers. They must also be contained to prevent [their] being walked on or otherwise injured. … By virtue of being loose, they have extreme potential of ingesting harmful agents.”

August 23, 1999:

The USDA cited Tiger Truck Stop for unsanitary feeding practices, failure to clean water receptacles with algae growth, and poor housekeeping.

November 5, 1997:

The USDA cited Tiger Truck Stop for failure to provide shelter from inclement weather.

September 12, 1997:

According to The Baton Rouge Advocate, Tiger Truck Stop sold two tiger cubs for $2,500 to a couple passing through on a camping trip. One of the cubs suffered from fluid collection around the joints in her front legs, a condition linked to living on concrete.

August 9, 1996:

According to The Baton Rouge Advocate, hazardous materials workers from several agencies, wearing protective gear, worked to control a leak of a hazardous and corrosive chemical called formic acid from a box trailer parked at the Tiger Truck Stop.

December 14, 1993:

According to The New Orleans Times-Picayune, Tiger Truck Stop was evacuated for five hours after a tanker truck ruptured, spilling 400 gallons of highly flammable aviation fuel at the truck stop.

September 14, 1993:

According to The Baton Rouge Advocate, Tiger Truck Stop, another truck stop, and 60 homes were evacuated after a driver reported that his trailer was smoking. The trailer was packed with drums of highly toxic sodium cyanide.

November 6, 1989:

According to the Houston Chronicle, Tiger Truck Stop was raffling off an 11-month-old, 350-pound Bengal tiger named Gloria who was living in a 16′x7′x7′ cage attached to a flatbed trailer. The entry forms, which released Tiger Truck Stop from liability, informed potential winners that they could “donate [her] to a zoo, sell [her], or give [her] to a friend” in the event that the winner did not want to keep the cub.

Legal battle continues for Tony the Tiger

Tony the tiger is a Siberian-Bengal mix that is at the center of an animal advocacy battle between the owner, who wants to continue using the animal as a tourist attraction at a Louisiana truck stop, and advocates, who are fighting to have Tony relocated to an appropriate sanctuary. Last year Louisiana’s Department of Wildlife and Fisheries and a federal judge ruled in favor of Tony by revoking the owner’s permit to keep the animal and making Tony’s relocation to a more suitable home a reality beginning the first of the New Year.

Unfortunately, a lawsuit was filed last week on behalf of the owner where this battle will now look at the constitutionality of the earlier decision. So instead of focusing on the well-being of Tony, this matter is going to be tied up with legal jargon and red tape. If the owner wins, he will not be allowed to own any other exotic animals but Tony will be stuck at the truck stop for the rest of his life.

This is such a tragic story. If Tony was a human child there would be no controversy. The well-being of the child would be the only focus. Sadly, animals are still considered property and the decision to file this lawsuit is nothing less than a blood-sucking egotistical lawyer looking for a win. The well-being of Tony is being completely ignored!

That is why we must not stop providing a voice for Tony. Please take a moment to email or write the Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries (click here for contact information) and ask that they fight for Tony’s rights and well-being. Animal lovers and advocates brought this matter to light and we must not allow Tony’s hope for sanctuary to fade away.

WELL JUST WHEN YOU THINK THERE WILL BE A PEACEFUL RESOLVE FOR TONY, WE HAVE MR. SANDLIN OR ONE OF HIS NEWLY FOUND PRIVATE OWNER FRIENDS WRITING A STATEMENT YESTERDAY – COPY BELOW .

…….SO  ON THAT NOTE….WHAT WE WOULD LIKE TO DO IS SHARE HIS STATEMENT BELOW THEN SHOW YOU HIS VIOLATIONS AND HISTORY BECAUSE IT LOOKS LIKE THEY NEED A REMINDER OR MAYBE HAVE A MEMORY ISSUE WHERE THEY SEEM TO HAVE FORGOTTEN WHY THE ANIMAL LEGAL DEFENSE FUND AND OVER 8O,000 PEOPLE FEEL THAT TONY HAS TOLERATED ENOUGH.

WHEN PEOPLE START ALLEGEDLY LYING WE WILL SHARE THE TRUTH.   THIS IS NOT A DEBATE ON PRIVATE OWNERSHIP, LETS CLEAR UP THAT MATTER NOW….WHAT THIS IS ABOUT IS TONY BEING AT A TRUCK STOP, AND THE HISTORY THAT HAS LED US UP TO THIS POINT,  THE VIOLATIONS AND HISTORY AT TIGER TRUCK STOP…….  AS IT SEEMS THEY NEED  A REALITY CHECK , EITHER WAY SANDLINS STATEMENT IS BASICALLY FULL OF HOLES…..I WOULD SAY FULL OF DUNG, CAN I SAY THAT???

************* WHEN YOUR A PRIVATE OWNER OF EXOTICS YOU WOULDN’T BE AFRAID OF ANIMAL ADVOCATES IF YOU HAD NOTHING TO HIDE.  IF YOU MISTREAT YOUR EXOTIC, WE WILL FIND YOU, EASY TO UNDERSTAND AND SIMPLE TO BE KIND TO YOUR ANIMALS.   …..WE CAN ALL GET ALONG IF YOU ARE COMPASSIONATE.  IF NOT, WE HAVE A SITUATION.****************************

SANDLINS POST YESTERDAY:

Keep Tony Where He Is

The animal activist group who brought the initial suit (ALDF,discussed supra) against LDWF purport to be interested in the welfare of the exotic animals. In their zealous advocacy to end private ownership of same, they have lost sight of the well being of the very animals they claim concern and the ever dwindling population of these majestic endangered cats, and the important role private ownership and the exhibits play in assisting with the prevention of the complete extinction of several endangered species. Not to mention the substantial impact these LDWF regulations will have on interstatecommerce and the television and film industry.

The animals in the care and control of responsible federally licensed individuals

such as Tony and Petitioners herein, are well treated, fed, maintained and free from disease, as free from predators including illegal poachers, and secured from the public’s harm or farmers and ranchers livestock all while being made available for public enjoyment and educational purposes in keeping with the clear intent of the federal law. There has not been any showing that Petitioners have abused Tony. However, the activist group at the heart of this regulation and current goal to steal Tony from Petitioners, have claimed such is occurring. The activist group is using sensational rhetoric and lies for their own economic benefit all in the name of preventing animal cruelty. However there has not ever been any cruelty found. Petitioners are in compliance with all federal laws and regulations and their USDA permit. These extremists claim Tony is exploited as a “cheap gimmick” because he is in an enclosure on business property. LSU.s Mike the Tiger is on LSU.s campus, under these extremists same argument, would also be a cheap gimmick subject to their attack. All animals in captivity and available for public viewing, according to these extremists are “exploited”. These extremist position is not consistent with the national interest of education of the public about these animals. These

extremists likewise find use of animals in film and television offensive and under LDWF regulations, possession of animals and transport by these animal wranglers is also a crime.

Further, the activist group wants Petitioners. particular animal removed from the

only home he has known for ten years. The stress to an animal removed from its habitat is well known and documented. Removal of Tony would be cruel and inhumane treatment. Forcing him to an unfamiliar place away from his loving caretakers would be cruel and inhumane. Yet the animal activist don.t discuss what will happen to Tony should they succeed in their goal to have Tony removed from Petitioners.

There are far too many interests at stake for this Court to allow one local state

agency.s inconsistent rules with a chilling effect to private individuals cooperation with the Endangered Species Act and the significant impact this particular case will have on interstate commerce to stand especially in light of the overreaching effect and irrational ban on importation, breeding and requirement for sterilization without exception for all federally permitted exhibitors, breeders and zoos. When the federal government clearly articulates animals are integral part of interstate commerce and has taken hundreds of hours of testimony and crafted numerous versions of regulations over several decades, crafted a set of federal laws and regulations that properly balance all of the competing interests at stake and has allowed certain persons permits, for a state and political subdivision to ignore some but not all federal permits without any clearly articulated rational basis that furthers some actual local problem is repugnant to the Constitution and

must be held unconstitutional.

This interest group has been successful in getting this statute passed and this

regulation adopted without accountability. They have been responsible for the coerced transfer of two privately kept cats, both of whom died within months of transport. Tony the Tiger at Michael Sandlin.s Tiger Truck Stop, is the current focus and potential next victim. If this statute and regulations are not declared unconstitutional now, then the next target could be LSU.s Mike the Tiger.

Additionally, these regulations and Parish Ordinance will unreasonably interfere with Louisiana.s developing television and film industry as the animal wranglers, who handle that industries performing animals are similarly situated USDA exhibitors as Petitioners and they will no longer be allowed to bring animals into the state for television and film purposes. These regulations and Iberville Parish Ordinance substantially interfere with interstate commerce by not yielding to all USDA Class C license holders.

The fact is that the exotic animals in the wild are disappearing at alarming rates

because of the illegal activity of criminal poachers. To think we can regulate and enact laws to stop illegal activity is naive. This activity can.t be regulated precisely because criminals do not follow laws. Thus, private ownership and exhibits like Sandlin.s and Tiger Truck Stops has become the safe haven for these most precious of our endangered commodities. Making it more difficult and expensive to assist with preserving these precious species is only furthering the likelihood that private citizens will stop assisting with the fight to prevent the complete extinction of these animals

SO THAT WAS WHAT MR. SANDLIN HAD TO SAY, HERE IS HIS HISTORY…..

OUR PROOF OF HIS HISTORY OF USDA VIOLATIONS

http://www.facebook.com/l.php?u=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.911animalabuse.com%2Fimages%2FUSDAViolations%2F2008Tiger_Truck_Stop_Factsheet.pdf&h=dAQFfpuZR

Facts on the history of Tiger Truck Stop that seem to have been overlooked. The buying, breeding, selling and exploiting of tigers for what they call “conservation” has been going on for 30 plus years with Mr. Sandlin and his father before him.

A 1993 Iberville Parish County Ordinance prohibited the display of wild exotic animals as pets but was never enforced. The ordinance was amended on March 17, 2009 to allow Tony’s owner Michael Sandlin to keep Tony.

Mr. Sandlin then had to secure a license from the Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries. LDWF’s On December 14, 2009 the LDW&F granted a permit to allow Tony’s owner to keep him at the truck stop.

On November 6, 1989 Tiger Truck Stop raffled off an 11-month-old 350-pound Bengal tiger named Gloria who was living in a 16”x7”x7” cage attached to a flatbed trailer. The entry forms informed potential winners that they could “donate [her] to a zoo, sell [her], or give [her] to a friend” in the event that the winner did not want to keep the cub.

On December 14, 1993 according to The New Orleans Times- Picayune, Tiger Truck Stop was evacuated for five hours after a tanker truck ruptured, spilling 400 gallons of highly flammable aviation fuel at the truck stop.

On September 12, 1997 Tiger Truck Stop sold two tiger cubs for $2,500 to a couple passing through on a camping trip. One of the cubs suffered from fluid collection around the joints in her front legs, a condition linked to living on concrete.

November 5, 1997 The USDA cited Tiger Truck Stop for failure to provide shelter from inclement weather.

August 23, 1999 The USDA cited Tiger Truck Stop for unsanitary feeding practices, algae growth in the water receptacles, and poor housekeeping.

November 28, 2000 Tiger Truck Stop was cited again by the USDA for failure to correct previously identified violations of not providing veterinary care and mishandling tigers.

Baby tigers were being housed in a cage behind the counter in the store and used for pictures. Two 60lb white tigers were being housed in a 5”x 5” chain-link dog run, and Tony was tied up behind the counter in the store by a dog collar and leash.

In October 2001 two tiger cubs were taken in for declawing. The first evening at the veterinarian’s office, the male cub died.

Another tiger named Selena died mysteriously at the age of four and is now stuffed and mounted over the restaurant salad bar.

In April of 2003 after repeated violations of the Animal Welfare Act three of the four remaining tigers were removed from the facility, but Tony was left behind.

These are ONLY a handful of the many violations and citations over the years, yet Tony still remains at the truck stop.

Michael Sandlin has threatened a lawsuit if anyone tries to take Tony, but it is the Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries’ job both legally and ethically to do what is best for Tony.

His cage sits within feet of the gas pumps. He breathes in toxic fumes from cars and trucks all day long, not to mention the aggravation he must feel with sightseers continually crowding around his cage and flashing lights in his face.

Tony also must endure the deafening noise from the big trucks and cars passing through 24 hours a day, flood lights on him at night, living on concrete which is damaging to his joints and pads of his paws.

He is living alone with no enrichments or animals of his kind. People taunt him, yell at him, and even throw things at him.

Michael Sandlin calls Tony his pet and part of the family, but he stated in a recent article that “thanks to all of the animal rights activists, business is better than ever”. He also stated that “he plans to exhibit “the tiger” until he is too old or too sick to be exhibited anymore”.

Clearly Tony is nothing more than a commodity to him. Please do what is right for Tony and let him live out his sunset years in peace at a sanctuary where he will get the love, attention and enrichment he so greatly deserves.

He has done his time at The Truck Stop.

For more than a decade, Tony, a Siberian-Bengal tiger, has spent every day and night at the Tiger Truck Stop in Grosse Tete, Louisiana. He paces on the hard concrete surface of his cage, unable to escape the stench of fuel and the deafening sound of diesel engines.

But Tony’s fate is about to change. Thanks to the generosity of supporters like you, the Animal Legal Defense Fund filed a lawsuit to free Tony – and we won! On November 2, East Baton Rouge District Court Judge Michael Caldwell ordered the Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries to revoke the current permit that allowed Tony to be kept at Tiger Truck Stop, and prohibited the agency from issuing any new permits to the truck stop.

It is because of your voice, your dedication, and your support that Tony will soon be free from the miserable, lonely conditions he’s endured day and night for the past decade. You made Tony’s freedom possible — and with your support, we can win victories for more exploited, neglected, and abused animals.

We would like nothing more than for Tony to live out his life in the comfort of an accredited sanctuary that is far better equipped to meet his basic needs and to give him the kind of life he deserves. ALDF continues to do everything we can to get Tony out of the truck stop as soon as possible, and make sure Tony’s next home is one where he can live out his life in a peaceful, natural environment, free of the fumes, toxins, and noise that have plagued his life to date.

ALDF is a relentless advocate for our clients like Tony, and we will not rest as long as any animal is being abused, neglected, or exploited. We’re able to do this because you stand by us and because you understand the role the law can play in the fight against animal cruelty.

Your support today will help ALDF win justice for more animals like Tony.

Thank you for all that you do for animals.

ALDF is well-aware of the allegations of horrendous conditions at G.W. Exotic Animal Park. Our attorneys are researching various legal strategies for ensuring that Tony goes to a reputable sanctuary, not a roadside zoo.

A new video came out on YouTube called Lies about Tony, and once again this video was professionally edited, altered and voiced over by Sandlins personal church going friend Ted Baldwin who is a political reporter who works for http://insidelanews.com/

They both attend: http://www.mccbr.org/

This video is full of lies that this campaign feels could be harmful to Tony’s well being.

“Anyone who doesn’t take truth seriously in small matters cannot be trusted in large ones either.”
Albert Einstein

An important comment and lie that Sandlin keeps throwing out there is that “activists” are poisoning Tony this is a very damaging and slanderous statement that is fabricated by Sandlin ~ its almost as if he is setting it up so that if something should ever happen to Tony he will blame the thousands of caring animal activist that are concerned for Tonys life.

WE HAVE SENT AN EMAIL TO THE ANIMAL LEGAL DEFENSE FUND ADVISING THEM THAT SANDLIN AND TED KEEP THROWING OUT THAT WORD. POISON. IF SOMETHING SHOULD HAPPEN TO TONY, NOT ONE “ACTIVIST” I KNOW WOULD EVEN GO TO LOUISIANA DUE TO THE FACT ALONE THAT IT’S TOO DANGEROUS.
People that allow Sandlin to keep this dangerous game up and keep placating him are not to be taken lightly. Sandlin in no way wants Tony to leave the truck stop, he is stopping at nothing, and playing dirty now. What does this mean for poor Tony? Will he make it out of there alive?

HE USES THE WORD ACTIVISTS AS A SCARE TACTIC. SURE THERE ARE ACTIVISTS THAT ARE EXTREME BUT THIS CAMPAIGN HAS NEVER ONCE BEEN EXTREME OR THREATENED ANYONE. WE JUST TELL THE TRUTH BASED ON LEGAL DOCUMENTATION THAT WE HAVE READ AND OBTAINED THRU THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT. WE HAVE SPENT COUNTLESS HOURS DAILY WORKING ON SPREADING TONY’S STORY, AND NOW WE HAVE THIS MAN SANDLIN WHO IS IN PANIC MODE AND IS HAVING KNEE JERK VIDEOS MADE THAT ARE FULL OF TALL TALES, IS TRYING TO MAKE PEOPLE THINK THERE IS SOME CRAZY ACTIVISTS STALKING HIM AND HANGING AROUND THE CAGE?? REALLY? SANDLIN AND BALDWIN YOU SHOULD TAKE YOUR ACT ON THE ROAD AND MAKE YOUR MONEY THAT WAY INSTEAD OF EXPLOITING A MAJESTIC TIGER LIKE TONY FOR YOUR GRAVY TRAIN.

WE WOULD RATHER YOU CALL US CARING TIGER LOVERS THAN CRAZY ACTIVISTS FOR THE RECORD.

THIS LATEST VIDEO CALLED LIES ABOUT TONY ON YOUTUBE IS A SAD PRODUCTION DONE BY A MAN WHO IS SEEKING FAME .WE CANT WAIT UNTIL DECEMBER 2011 WHEN WE CAN CLOSE THIS PAGE DOWN AND NEVER HEAR YOUR LOUSY NAMES AGAIN AS TONY WILL BE SAFE FROM THE LIKES OF MEN WHO KNOW NOTHING ABOUT TREATING WILD TIGERS. THE POOL IS A HORSE TROUGH WITH NO FILTER SYSTEM. TONY HAS NEVER BEEN IN IT ONCE, NICE ATTEMPT WITH THE NEW STAIRS THOUGH. IF HE HAD SANDLIN WOULD HAVE PICTURES PLASTERED ACROSS THE INTERNET.

Tony’s More Than Bad…HE’S TRAPPED BEHIND GLASS WALLS!

Our friend, Tony the Tiger (no, not the athletic pal that has a contract with Frosted Flakes—that’s his distant cousin), has been pent up in an unsuitable cage on Interstate 10 in Louisiana since 2000. This 550 pound Siberian-Bengal mixed-breed tiger should not have to withstand an 11th summer as an attraction at the Tiger Truck Stop. What is this world coming to when truck stop-goers can take a gander at an exotic cat while purchasing some Cheetos and a couple of Dr. Peppers for the road? How were citizens okay with this disturbing set-up?

Fortunately, some sane Americans had qualms with Tony’s situation. That’s why State District Judge Michael R. Caldwell ruled that the agency can’t grant any more tiger ownership permits to the Tiger Truck Stop after the current one expires in December. The problem is, why not revoke the owner’s permit now, freeing Tony to an actual cat sanctuary where the ground is grass, not concrete, his pond large enough to provide comfort, not just for show, and his air as pure as it can be, not stagnant with noxious fumes.

Some may argue that a couple more months won’t do any harm after being imprisoned for 10 ½ years already. That may seem true, but when an animal is suffering, how can any amount of time be justified? Animal cruelty happens all over the U.S., every day. Don’t believe me? Take a look at Paul McCartney’s “Glass Walls” video. I had to stop watching and only listen because it’s that wretched.

The routine cruelty that happens in slaughterhouses is beyond foul. Workers are poorly paid and unmonitored—so however they want to kill a turkey today is up to them. The possibilities are endless, really. Some prefer to club fowl as they try and run away while others get their exercise in by stomping on the chosen turkey’s neck repeatedly. You can’t work out your legs without lending some attention to the upper body. After some leg work they like to yank and twist the turkey’s neck, pulling it apart while breaking its bones.

Before becoming part of a daily workout, the points of their beaks are sliced off with a hot metal blade. Then the chickens are chucked into cages packed so full that they can’t even spread a single wing. This is where they await their inevitable fate for 18 months—in wire cages where they eventually ride, food- and waterless to their deaths. Their throats are sliced open—many while they are still conscious.

Some fellow farm animals, pigs are kept in just as awful conditions where necessary mental stimulation isn’t provided, leading the eventual pork to insanity. The mama pigs give birth in stalls just big enough to fit their bodies. That way they can’t even nuzzle their piglets. How motherly? Those piglets that become sick, which is highly likely, are “thumped.” This is a wholesome example of the jargon used by slaughter house workers where they pick up a diseased little piggy, rear back, and throw it down as hard as they can. When the animal is killed on the first pound, they’re encouraged by their co-workers. They should clearly be rewarded for their hard work. Awesome job, guys!

How can these workers tape and cheer on their co-workers, let alone perform these atrocious activities themselves? What kinds of people take pleasure in murdering animals? The same that enjoy torturing people in times of war, I’m sure.

I can’t stop these sick and disturbed people from enjoying their wicked jobs, brutally murdering our dinners, but I can talk about it. The more we talk about it, the better the chances are that these workouts and sick pleasures come to an end. Unfortunately, the only real way to not support animal cruelty is to become vegetarian. I, for one, could never do that because I love meat entirely too much. However, knowing where your meat comes from can help.

While it’s unlikely to cease all maiming of innocent critters, we can start with one at a time. Think back to those glorious commercials where Tony convinces his friends that sugar flakes are part of a balanced breakfast. Do we really want his cousin suffering in a truck stop for another sweltering summer? Didn’t think so.

Here’s how you can help by taking action!
