Tony Truck Stop Tiger Permit Renewal
Tiger Truck Stop owner, Michael Sandlin’s, permit to keep Tony the tiger at the truck stop in Gross Tete, LA is up for renewal soon and with your help the LA. Dept. of Wildlife & Fisheries and USDA may choose to not renew him. This would enable Tony to move to a sanctuary away from the torment of being kept on concrete, breathing gas fumes and being annoyed by every carload of yahoos that drive through.
Here is what we need:
Veterinarians who will send us notorized affidavits that it is unhealthy to cage an animal at a truck stop next to gas pumps due to the fumes from the pumps and the 24/7 traffic of diesel trucks.
Statements from veterinarians and other experts that attest to the fact that being kept on concrete is detrimental to the health and comfort of big cats. He has a grass yard, but is often prevented from accessing it, and there is no shade there.
Eye witness reports, photos and videos of Tony living in squalor at the Tiger Truck Stop.
Please mail these to MakeADifference @ BigCatRescue.org or 12802 Easy St. Tampa, FL 33625

This morning the following note was posted on Tony’s Facebook page from Jeff Dorson, the Executive Director of The Humane Society of Louisiana. Thank you Jeff and HSLA for your support of Tony. Local support is greatly needed for Tony and something which truly can have an enormous impact on getting Tony relocated to the home and life he deserves.

A huge “Thank You” to all of Tony’s friends who continue to be a strong voice for him and who never give up advocating for his freedom.

Jeff announced their support of the Free Tony The Tiger campaign and the formation of a national committee for Tony whose principle purpose will be “to develop a workable plan to transfer Tony to a new environment with a natural setting – and one that will attend to his social and medical needs.” If you are interested in serving on this committee, please send a brief bio with your contact information to Jeff Dorson, Executive Director, Humane Society of Louisiana, at stopcruelty11@gmail.com

Jeff’s Post
I have been in touch with other advocates who wish to free Tony as well, but I just discovered your website. I am the director of the Humane Society of Louisiana, and I am presently forming a national committee of people interested in devoting their time, energy and resources to help relocate Tony to an accredited big cat sanctuary. If you approve of this idea, would you mind sharing this invitation with your supporters on this site?

Dear Friends,
To help us focus our energies and develop one or more plans to secure Tony’s freedom and relocate him to an accredited big cat sanctuary, we are forming a free Tony the Tiger national committee. Committee members can live any where in the world, but must be willing to devote some spare time to developing and implementing plans that would help secure Tony’s freedom.

Committee “meetings” will be held in chat rooms and on conference calls throughout the next few weeks and/or months or beyond. We are looking for bright, energetic, creative, hard-working team players to serve on this national committee. Our principle purpose is to develop a workable plan to transfer Tony to a new environment with a natural setting – and one that will attend to his social and medical needs. Louisiana residents serving on this committee will be invited to meet with Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries officials, other agency representatives, and visit Tony at the Tiger Truck Stop.
If you are interested in serving on this committee, please send a brief bio with your contact information to Jeff Dorson, Executive Director, Humane Society of Louisiana, at stopcruelty11@gmail.com

Sincerely yours,
Jeff Dorsonwww.humanela.org

It gets hot in Grosse Tete, Louisiana, especially during the summer. To see the temperature crack 100 in the August heat and humidity isn’t rare. And during those days, there aren’t many less pleasant places to be than a truck stop right off the interstate. The heat rising off the asphalt, the oppressive humidity, and, of course, the fumes from dozens of idling diesel engines turn the Tiger Truck Stop into a little slice of hell on Earth. It’s brutal. It makes you want to run for the nearest shady spot, away from the stench of gas and boiling blacktop.
